Aventurine is a form of quartzite with inclusions of platy mineral inclusions to give it a shimmery appearance. Green aventurine gets its color and appearance from the inclusion of fuchsite, a chromium muscovite mica, whereas the inclusion of hematite and goethite change the color to brownish hue, generally called yellow aventurine. Aventurine is a high-grade metamorphic rock formed when quartz rich sandstone is subject to very high temperatures and pressures. Impurities in the sandstone then impart the characteristic colors and luster.
Aventurine is used as decorative stone in landscaping, can be carved into a variety of figures and very high quality pieces can be made into jewelry.
